Through the sustainable harvest and consumption of wild food, Lake2Plate viewers will gain a deeper appreciation of the Ottawa River’s history, socio-economic value, and the people committed to ensuring its future.
Lawrence Gunther and his guide dog Moby will lead the adventure and introduce a celebrity chef to the river and its bounty, culminating in the harvest, preparation and consumption of a shore-side meal.
Lawrence will guide the chef through the fishing segment and will draw on local and indigenous knowledge, science, and a range of human senses, all designed to visualize and comprehend the river’s unseen world.
Viewers will meet a cross-section of people connected to the river through culture, tradition, settlement, agriculture, tourism, and commerce; all of whom will share their connection to the river and take part in the celebratory shore-side meal at the end.
The focus will be on Lawrence instructing the celebrity chef to connect to the river, and then Lawrence and the chef as together they prepare the shore side meal featuring the harvested fish, wild and locally grown food.
The goal is to strengthen mutually held values and personal bonds through a shared adventure, good food and a communal meal.
The call-to-action is that fishing sustainably and selectively can be carried out responsibly, and that it’s a rich tradition that we need to carry forward.
The key take-away is that by inspiring others to engage in outdoor activities, our connection to nature and our commitment to ensuring its long term viability will remain strong.
